The technology of power generation

Simple design, more power, robust mechanisms and fuel efficient are the words that come to mind when you talk about diesel engines. And the greatest beneficiary to this technology has been the diesel generators that we use to create power.

There are many benefits of choosing diesel generators set over a gasoline engine. Diesel engines operate at twice the compression ratio of gasoline engines and create greater internal pressures and heat. The key to have an extended life of the technology is to its fuel and oil.

Advantages of diesel engines

·        Most of the modern diesel engines have overcome the shortcomings of their ancestors in respect of noise and maintenance costs.

·        They are more rugged and reliable.

·        There is no more sparking as the fuel auto ignites. The absence of spark plug lowers maintenance costs.

·        Fuel cost per KW produces is around 30% to 50% lower than the gas engines.

·        Diesel sets have significantly longer lives. If maintained and used properly, it can operate upto 30,000 hours at 1800 rpm without asking for any major maintenance against 10,000 hours of gas unit at similar operating levels.

Applications

In order of have uninterruptible power supplies, diesel generators are used in countless industrial and commercial establishments. The generators are used for small loads, such as in homes, as well as larger loads like industrial plants, hospitals, commercial buildings and construction equipments. They are used both as a primary source of power as well as a standby/backup mode of power.
